Contemporary Embroidery: Hinke Schreuders

Hinke Schreuders is a Dutch textile artist, she layers old, often black and white images of women in their associated traditional female roles and then laces them with a very contemporary form of embroidery.Dutch artist Hinke Schreuders works feature
classic fashion photography and film icons. She photo transfers the images and then embroiders into the surface. Hinke Schreuders’ stitches on paper explore the female role model of the fifties.

The Amsterdam based artist creates mixed media works using newspapers, magazine, fabric and thread. I love her use of abstract patterns that give a modern twist to fashion images that are most likely from the 1940s/1950s. The artist's website has more images and information so please check it out.
